About this spot
The Oxbows is a bend of the Saranac River in Cadyville, Clinton County, reached via Kent Falls Road off Route 3, which dead-ends at parking near the river. Until 2020 jumpers used the historic Oxbow truss bridge here; the county demolished it specifically because bridge-jumping had caused at least four deaths, and officials acknowledged people also jump from the natural rock ledges along the bank, roughly 5-45 feet. Those cliffs remain the de facto jump spot today, though nothing is posted or maintained and there's no official sanction. The river has a documented history of dangerous current near the old bridge footings — treat depth and current as unverified until checked in person. No fees, but this is not a supervised swimming area and has a fatal history.
