About this spot
Bird Falls is a real, lidar-measured ~155-foot drop on the south shore of Fontana Lake in Swain County, but World Waterfall Database lists it as an unofficial, unconfirmed name and notes the only public approach is by boat across Fontana Lake — the land around the base is otherwise private property with no overland trail. Treat as a remote boat-in curiosity rather than a verified swim/jump spot; no trip reports document swimming or jumping here.
Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
