About this spot
Nantahala Falls is the well-known Class III rapid at the downstream end of the Nantahala Outdoor Center's commercial rafting run, just off US 19/74 near Wesser. It is a highly trafficked whitewater and sightseeing spot with roadside viewing and a riverside area popular for wading and splashing, but the falls itself is fast, rocky moving water, not a swimming hole. No documented cliff-jumping culture was found; strong current and submerged rock are the main hazards.
Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
