About this spot
Wesser Falls is a man-made rapid on the Nantahala River just past the Nantahala Outdoor Center, created when the channel was rerouted for the Fontana Dam project. It rates Class III at low flow but can become Class V at normal releases, and it is the point where rafters must take out before the drop. A short walk across the bridge and along the railroad tracks leads to an observation deck for viewing. No swimming or jumping culture is documented; this is treated as a hazard to avoid, not a jump spot.
Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
