About this spot
Granny Burrell Falls is a documented swimming hole in Panthertown Valley, Nantahala National Forest, reached by a roughly 1.5-mile hike from the west-entrance trailhead off Breedlove Road near Cashiers. Panthertown Creek slides about 12-15 feet down a broad, gently angled rock face into one of the largest, sandiest pools in the valley, popular for wading, sliding, and sunbathing all summer. Flow and the slide's grip change fast with rain, algae makes the rock slick, and the pool's depth is uneven, so scout it and skip sliding or jumping after storms or in low water. It sits on public national forest land with no permit needed, but Panthertown is remote backcountry with no cell service or facilities, so come prepared and pack out trash.
Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
