About this spot
Greenland Creek Falls is a two-tiered, roughly 45-50 ft cascade in Panthertown Valley (Nantahala National Forest), reached via the Mac's Gap Trail from the Cold Mountain trailhead — a few-mile hike through a valley nicknamed the 'Yosemite of the East.' The creek drops over an open rock face into a large, well-documented swimming pool with a gravel bar for sunbathing, described across multiple independent trail guides as a popular summer dip spot. There are no lifeguards or depth markers; the tea-colored, tannin-stained water hides submerged rock and logs, and flow surges fast after rain. There's no vehicle access to the falls itself, and creek crossings on the approach can flood — check conditions before hiking in.
Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
