About this spot
Camp Branch Falls is a roughly 20 ft drop on Camp Branch in the Oconee District of Sumter National Forest, near Long Creek, SC. It sits about 1.2 miles into the popular Opossum Creek Falls hike, reached from a trailhead off Turkey Ridge Road (via Damascus Church Road from Hwy 76); you'll hear the falls before a short unmarked scramble path drops you to the base. The pool is small and shallow-to-moderate, more of a wading/photo stop than a plunge pool, and independent cliff-jumping or swimming-hole accounts are scarce. No fee. Hazards are typical Southeast waterfall risks: wet rock, a steep unofficial scramble to the base, and slippery footing near the plunge — hedge on depth and current before entering the water.
Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
