About this spot
Reedy Branch Falls (also called Burson's Falls) is a real, well-documented ~30-foot cascade in Sumter National Forest, reached by an easy, unmarked 0.4-mile hike from a roadside pull-off on Long Creek Highway (US-76) near the Chattooga Ridge area — closer to Long Creek than Mountain Rest, SC. The falls spill over a wide, moss-covered rock ledge into a shallow pool, which limits it as a jump spot; multiple guides frame it as a scenic, easy-access sightseeing waterfall rather than a swimming hole. No source documents cliff jumping or a swimming culture here. It's public Forest Service land (a private development was bought out), so legality isn't an issue, but the shallow pool and slick ledges are the hazard that matters if wading.
Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
