About this spot
Crane Creek Falls is a real ~40-foot cascade on Crane Creek in the Sumter National Forest near Mountain Rest, South Carolina, part of a cluster of falls (Crane Creek, Middle, Lower, Deadfall, Secret) reachable off Cheohee/Winding Stairs Road. Access is genuinely hard: no maintained trail, an off-trail bushwhack of roughly a mile with route-finding required, and downed timber has blocked approaches in past reports. No source documents swimming or jumping here specifically — coverage focuses on photography and difficulty of reach, not water recreation. Treat any pool at the base as unverified for depth and hazards (submerged rock, deadfall) until reported by a visitor.
Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
