About this spot
Cummins Falls drops 75 feet in two stages on the Blackburn Fork near Cookeville, ending in a wide swimming hole named Travel + Leisure's 10th Best Swimming Hole in America. Reaching the base requires a required free permit, a mandatory safety video, and a rugged 1.5-mile gorge scramble; the park closes access entirely during high water because flash floods here have been fatal. People do jump from the surrounding rocks into the deep pool, but never assume a spot is safe just because others are jumping it. Kids 12 and under must wear life jackets in the plunge pool, and the park discourages the trip for children five and under. Satellite imagery confirms real park infrastructure (footbridge, parking, visitor building) at this access point.
Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
