Positioned northeast of Elizabethton in Tennessee, Holston Mountain sits within the Cherokee National Forest, bordered by South Holston Lake to the northwest, Damascus, Virginia to the northeast, and Stony Creek Valley with the Iron Mountains to the south. From Elizabethton, drive approximately 10 miles northeast via Route 91 toward Stony Creek Valley, then turn left onto Panhandle Road heading toward Holston Mountain. About a mile along this road on the left side is a gravel parking area. A clearly marked trail begins on the right side of the parking area and descends past four cascading falls comprising Blue Hole Falls, leading down to the base pool. The trail is relatively short with scenic surroundings. From Johnson City, head northeast on Ashe Street toward Union Street, take the first left onto Buffalo Street, turn right onto East Main Street, merge right onto I-26 East/US-23 South, exit at US-321/TN-67 toward Elizabethton, turn right onto TN-67 East/US-321 North/US-321 Scenic South, slight left onto Broad Street, turn left onto TN-37 North/TN-91 North/US-19E North/New Stony Creek Road, continue on TN-91 North, turn left onto Mill Creek Road, then left onto National Forest Road 202/Panhandle Road.
