About this spot

Devil's Waterhole is a narrow, pink-granite cove on Inks Lake within Inks Lake State Park, reached by a short, flat nature trail near the Park Road 4 day-use area. Ledges range from easy 5-10 foot steps up to a roughly 40-foot boulder favored by experienced jumpers; the lake never runs shallow, even in drought, since it is spring- and dam-fed. This is one of Texas Hill Country's most-visited swimming holes, covered repeatedly by the park's own site, regional news, and years of visitor video. The granite gets hot enough to burn bare feet by midday, and there is no lifeguard on duty, so injuries from jumping onto submerged rock or misjudging the boulder's true height are the recurring hazard. A park entry fee applies.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
