About this spot

Located within minutes of Mary Washington University in Fredericksburg, this former quarry also serves as a popular destination for running and mountain biking. Access via Route 3 by turning onto Bragg Road (directly across from the mall—take the left turn if heading east, right if heading west). Continue for 0.9 miles until Bragg Road becomes Fall Hill Avenue. Follow Fall Hill Avenue for 1.9 miles and locate the parking area on your right before reaching the river. Alternatively, from Route 1, turn onto Fall Hill Avenue (right if traveling south, left if traveling north) and proceed 0.6 miles to find parking on your left. From the parking lot, expect approximately a 1.5 mile walk to reach the quarry. Cross the road and follow the canal-side trail, which offers pleasant river swimming spots along the way. Upon arrival at the quarry, the jumping area lies directly ahead. Take the rightmost trail that hugs the quarry perimeter and watch for climbing ropes tied on your left, as the descent to the jumps is quite steep and aided by these ropes. The initial rock formation serves as the smaller jump; staying right along the cliff edge provides access to the larger jump.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
