About this spot
Superior Falls drops about 90 feet on the Montreal River, which forms the Wisconsin-Michigan border just before emptying into Lake Superior near Saxon. A paved incline leads from a public parking area down to a hydroelectric plant and gorge overlook, and local kids are documented jumping from ledges into the deep plunge pool between the falls' two main drops. Red sandstone cliffs and moving water below a working dam make footing and current strength the key hazards, and because the site sits beside an active hydro facility, water levels can shift quickly, so posted signage should be respected. Access is free and public, with additional shoreline walking along Lake Superior at the river mouth.
