Upper Potato River Falls is part of Potato River Falls County Park near Saxon, Wisconsin, where the Potato River drops about 90 feet in two stages on its way to the Bad River and Lake Superior. A 0.8-mile trail descends 131 steps to an overlook, and swimming is permitted at both the Upper and Lower Falls areas; visitors commonly wade, cross the river, and scramble the many worn paths along the rock. The park has pit toilets, a picnic shelter, and five free first-come rustic campsites. Rock ledges are slick and currents strengthen after rain or snowmelt, so footing near the lip is the main hazard; this is a well-trafficked, legally accessible Iron County park, not a private site.
