Lower Potato River Falls is a 50-foot, 100-foot-wide drop on the Potato River in the Iron County Forest, southwest of Gurney off Sunset/Falls Road. A steep timber staircase of roughly 200 steps descends into the gorge to an observation deck, and a rough path continues from there to the riverbank, where multiple hiking guides describe visitors wading and swimming in the pools at the base. Actual cliff jumping off the falls itself isn't documented, so treat that as unverified rather than assumed. Rock ledges are slick, the current picks up fast after rain or snowmelt, and there's no fee, lifeguard, or rail at the water's edge. Best visited summer through early fall when flow is moderate and stairs are dry.
