Chapman Falls is the signature feature of Devil's Hopyard State Park, where the Eightmile River drops roughly 60 feet over three cascading steps of Scotland schist. Park at the Foxtown Road lot off Hopyard Road; the falls are a two-minute, well-marked walk from parking, with a footbridge and overlook right above the drop. Swimming is officially prohibited throughout the park, but it happens constantly anyway - visitors regularly wade into the pools, climb behind the cascades, and sit streamside, per multiple trip reports. The real hazard is the steep, unrailed rock incline beside the falls, made slicker by algae; New England waterfalls like this one have a history of serious injuries and drownings. Bring grip-soled shoes and skip it after heavy rain.
