About this spot
Seven Falls (Seven Falls State Park) is a chain of small cascades - really three or four distinct drops of about 5 feet each - on a rocky brook off Aircraft Road near Route 9 exit 10 in Middletown/Higganum. Roadside lots at Seven Falls Parking 1 and 2 offer ample free parking, with picnic tables a short walk in. Swimming is officially not allowed, but it's a well-established local hangout: reviewers describe people wading, jumping around the rocks, and picnicking streamside all summer, plus a talus-cave scramble further along the Seven Falls Loop trail. The main hazard is slick, algae-covered rock rather than height - twisted ankles are more common here than drownings. Ticks are active on the surrounding trail from March through November.
