About this spot

Hilliard Falls (formerly Bearcamp Falls) is a roughly 125-ft cascade on the Foothills Trail along the NC/SC line near Sapphire, reached only by an 8-mile backcountry hike each way from trailheads like Musterground Road, so day-trippers rarely see it. Multiple hiker trip reports and AllTrails reviews describe swimming in the pool below the falls and in smaller holes along the approach. Given the height and remote setting, treat this as a scenic swim, not a jump spot — the tall drop, slick rock, and lack of cell service make the real hazard exhaustion and injury far from help. Access is via public national forest and Foothills Trail land, no fees, but plan for an overnight or very long day hike and check trail conditions before heading out.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
