About this spot
Standing Stone Falls is a real, well-documented drop on the Thompson River near Sapphire, NC, part of an extreme ~7-mile off-trail scramble (per a detailed HikingWNC trip report and AllTrails) that also passes Big/Thompson Falls, Simon Falls, and Rich Falls. There is no trail beyond the first river crossing; reaching Standing Stone requires free-climbing exposed, mossy rock with no ropes (one section is nicknamed the "leap of faith"). Swimming is documented at nearby Simon Falls, not confirmed at Standing Stone itself, which is a photography/scrambling destination with serious fall hazard rather than a casual swim spot.
Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
