About this spot
Upper Wash Branch Falls is a roadside falls (estimates range 20-45ft) off Winding Stairs Road (FS 710) near Tamassee/Mountain Rest, SC, in Sumter National Forest. No formal trail exists; visitors scramble roughly 25 feet down from the roadside pullout to the stream. Documented by several independent SC waterfall guides and a video episode. The companion Lower Wash Branch Falls sits just downstream. No confirmed swimming culture; the main hazard is the unmarked, off-trail scramble near the brink.
Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
