About this spot

Lowest of the three Buttermilk Falls tiers on Branch Brook, Okemo State Forest near Ludlow, VT, reached first (about 0.3 miles in, ~20 feet of elevation) on the Buttermilk Falls Trail off Buttermilk Falls Road; park roadside or at the state-forest lot. A 12-15-foot drop feeds a swimming hole deep enough to fully submerge in; jumping is documented mainly at the pool above, but this lower pool is the primary swim stop for most visitors per Tripadvisor, Islands, and Vermont River Conservancy. Watch for slippery rocks and skip swimming for 24 hours after heavy rain (posted E. coli advisory); flood damage means staying on the marked trail. Public land, free access.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
