About this spot
Three-tier Buttermilk Falls on Branch Brook, Okemo State Forest, off Buttermilk Falls Road near Ludlow, VT; park along the road or at the lot near the Okemo State Park sign, then an easy 0.3-0.5-mile trail. This middle tier (locally called Bridal Veil) is the pool reviewers most often cite for cliff jumping, with a large rock used as a jump platform into a deep, clear pool below a 12-15-foot drop. Extensively documented across Tripadvisor, Islands, Voyaging Herbivore, and Vermont River Conservancy. Hazard that matters: posted signage warns against swimming for 24 hours after heavy rain due to E. coli, and flood-eroded banks mean staying on the marked trail. Public land, free, no permit.
Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
