About this spot
Clarendon Gorge is the Mill River gorge under the Long Trail's famous swinging suspension bridge, with a rope swing and cliff jumps up to about 30 ft into deep pools. Park at the Long Trail lot on Route 103 (about 2.5 miles east of Route 7, on the right just before the railroad tracks) and it's a short walk down the white-blazed trail to the bridge and pools; Devils Gorge sits a short scramble upstream for more swimming. Spring-fed and cold, and the gorge funnels runoff — water rises fast after rain, so skip it after storms and always check depth before jumping.
Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
