About this spot
The oldest marble quarry in the US (opened 1785), now a beloved swimming hole right along Route 30 in Dorset, marked by marble sculptures carved into the walls. It draws large crowds on summer days. Access requires a mandatory waiver/wristband (a $15 parking fee applies at the nearby Dorset Marble Park lot on Kelly Rd; quarry access itself is free). Posted rules officially prohibit diving and unaccompanied minors — jumpers still go off ledges up to about 20ft at their own risk. The center is 40+ ft deep, but edges have shallow shelves; a minor was airlifted after a roughly 22ft fall onto marble in 2024. Cameras monitor the site and repeat rule-breakers get barred for the season.
