About this spot
March Cataract Falls is a roughly 30-foot fan of water on the western slope of Mount Greylock, inside Mount Greylock State Reservation. Standard access is via Sperry Road/Sperry Campground off Rockwell Road, then about a half-mile on the March Cataract Trail. Multiple hiking guides describe cliff jumping into the swimming hole at the base, best visited April-November. Trail-closure reports are inconsistent across sources — check current status with Mass DCR before you go.
Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly.
