About this spot

Gragg Prong Falls is a roughly 40-foot two-stage drop on Gragg Prong in the Wilson Creek area of Pisgah National Forest, reached via a moderate 3.2-mile round-trip hike on the Lost Cove Trail from the Roseboro Road (FR 1511) bridge near Linville. The trail fords Gragg Prong several times before opening onto smooth bedrock slides and a deep plunge pool that draws swimmers and jumpers all summer; a shallower pothole near the top of the falls is the usual jump spot, though several visitors have reported slipping on the wet rock while climbing back out. Access is legal on national forest land, but the gravel forest roads in are rough and the creek crossings become genuinely hazardous after rain, so check water levels before jumping.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
