About this spot

North Harper Creek Falls is a roughly 50-foot cascade in the Harper Creek Wilderness Study Area of Pisgah National Forest near Collettsville, North Carolina, reached by a 3-mile round-trip moderate hike with a steep switchback staircase from the trailhead. Two pools sit below the falls; the lower one is larger than an Olympic pool and is where hikers commonly swim, slide, or jump from streamside rocks, with an old fixed rope offering a scramble up to a roughly 20-foot jump ledge. The hazard that matters: that rope is reported to be in poor condition, and the site is remote with no cell service, so a slip or fall is a serious problem. Parking is free at the forest-service trailhead; no fees, no lifeguards, and small children or dogs are discouraged.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
