About this spot
Community directions: by Lock 12 go down the road, past the no-parking signs, to one of the few legal pull-offs — one has a trail; take it down and across a smaller channel, over an island, to the rope swing (jumps in the 10-20 ft range). This is the Lock 12 Historic Area on the Susquehanna near Holtwood — a stone lock from the 1840 Susquehanna & Tidewater Canal, off River Road by the Norman Wood Bridge. Park only in the designated areas (the no-parking zones are enforced). Serious safety note: Holtwood Dam releases can raise this stretch of river quickly and without much warning — check conditions, don't linger mid-channel, and never assume yesterday's water level.
Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
