About this spot
Buttermilk Falls tumbles about 35 feet over layered rock right along White Haven Road, on the western edge of the Bear Creek Preserve in Luzerne County. It's one of the easiest roadside waterfalls in the Poconos to reach: a short walk from a small dirt pull-off leads straight to the base. The plunge pool is a popular summer swimming hole, and social-media clips document people jumping from the surrounding rock ledges. The pool isn't especially deep and the creek bed is uneven underfoot, so checking depth and scanning for submerged rock before jumping matters more here than at a deeper quarry hole. Parking is limited to the roadside pull-off, and there's no lifeguard, so flow and depth should be checked, especially after heavy rain.
