About this spot

Blue Hole Falls is a roughly 25-foot drop in Sumter National Forest that empties into a striking blue-green plunge pool immediately below Cedar Creek Falls, reached via Rich Mountain Road (FS744) off SC-28 near Mountain Rest on a rugged 1.3-mile round-trip hike that includes fording the creek above the falls. The pool has a real, documented cliff-jumping following, with jump clips from this exact spot posted on YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram. The main hazard is footing: the surrounding rock is notoriously slick and a rope is commonly used to descend safely, and water levels shift quickly after rain. Sumter National Forest is public land with free, legal day-use access.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
