About this spot
Big Laurel Falls sits deep in Virgin Falls State Natural Area near Sparta, Tennessee, reached via a roughly 2-mile backcountry trail on the larger 9-mile Virgin Falls loop. It's a tall curtain waterfall with a cave behind it, but sources describe the plunge pool as small and rocky rather than swimmable, and Tennessee state natural areas generally restrict swimming to designated areas only. No cliff-jumping or swimming-hole culture turned up in searches — this reads as a hiking and photography destination rather than a jump spot. The long, remote approach hike is itself a factor to weigh before visiting.
Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
