About this spot
Falling Water Cascades is the first and smallest (about 20 ft) of four waterfalls along the Falling Water River at Burgess Falls State Park near Sparta, TN, reached in a few minutes from the main parking lot via a stairway on the River Trail/Service Road loop. The park is free and open daily with no permit required. Park management explicitly warns that swimming is dangerous and not permitted anywhere in the gorge because of strong currents, slick bedrock, and submerged hazards; the only legal way to touch the water below the falls is by kayak or boat from Cane Hollow Recreation Area. No trip reports describe swimming or jumping here — treat this as a scenic overlook stop.
Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
