About this spot
Big Branch Falls is a 15-foot, multi-tier cascade encountered along the same Virgin Falls Trail near Sparta, Tennessee, on the way to Big Laurel Falls and Virgin Falls itself, inside Virgin Falls State Natural Area. It's reached only by a multi-mile backcountry hike. No source describes it as a swimming hole or jump spot — it functions as a scenic waypoint on a long day hike rather than a swim destination, and the natural area generally limits swimming to designated spots. Treat as a hiking landmark, not a confirmed cliff-jumping location.
Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
