About this spot
Lower Amnicon Falls is just downstream of Upper Falls in Amnicon Falls State Park near South Range, past the historic covered Horton Bridge; reached by the same paved park road and short trail (state park vehicle admission required). The river spreads into a roughly 15-20 foot wide rocky slide that spills into a sandstone-canyon pool. Multiple park guides confirm you can swim and float here when the river isn't running high, alongside the Upper Falls pool. There's no lifeguard, submerged rocks and the slick, sloped rock at the lip of the slide are the main hazards, and depth and current shift after rain. As with the rest of the park, Wisconsin DNR bans diving or jumping off the rock walls — swim, don't jump.
