About this spot
Upper Amnicon Falls is in Amnicon Falls State Park near South Range, reached by a paved park road and short trail to the Upper Falls viewpoint (state park vehicle admission required). The Amnicon River narrows through big rapids and drops roughly 15-20 feet between black basalt walls into a wide pool. That plunge pool is one of Wisconsin's most cited swimming holes, floatable when the river isn't running high, with several travel and swimming-hole guides naming it specifically. There's no lifeguard, rocks below the surface are hidden in dark water, and current strengthens quickly after rain. Wisconsin DNR explicitly prohibits diving or jumping from the rock walls here, so this is a swim-and-float spot, not a jump spot, despite its popularity.
